Justen Hong Becomes Jury Member for DesignRush Awards

Posted on August 28, 2024

Justen Hong DesignRush jury member

I was recently invited to serve as a jury member for the DesignRush Awards. DesignRush meticulously evaluates and shortlists outstanding designs across categories such as web design, logo design, print design, package design, and more. These shortlisted designs are then reviewed by the Design Awards Jury, which consists of seasoned industry experts with extensive experience in design, development, marketing, and advertising. Their role is to objectively assess each project, using their expertise to evaluate the quality and creativity of the work.

As jury members, we are presented with a shortlist of candidates in each design category and tasked with rating each submission on a scale of one to ten. The design that achieves the highest average score is honored with the prestigious Design Award.

In conjunction with my selection as a jury member, DesignRush conducted an interview with me. Here is an excerpt from that interview:

So I Had a Visual Lure Sign Made…

Visual Lure logo sign design

While recently scrolling through Instagram, I stumbled upon an incredible handcrafted wooden sign that immediately caught my attention. Its intricate details and carefully placed colors impressed me, compelling me to click the profile. Upon visiting, I discovered a huge selection of remarkable signs and was immediately convinced that I needed to have one made for myself. To my pleasant surprise, the cost was very affordable, and the level of craftsmanship was truly exceptional. The sign I requested was two feet wide and cost approximately $250.

The process was seamless and efficient. I provided my logo design in vector format, and within a day, I received a CAD drawing/rendering of the sign for my approval. Once I gave the green light, the sign was promptly created and shipped within 14 days. It now proudly hangs above my office computer.

If you’re in search of an exquisitely crafted wooden sign for interior purposes, I wholeheartedly recommend Cornbread Customs. These two talented individuals (Han & Tony), based in Nebraska, create stunning signs with utmost skill and precision. They have truly mastered the art of sign making. You can find their exceptional work at CornbreadCustoms.com or on Instagram here: instagram.com/cornbread_custom_signs.

Full Page Ad Design for a Sonoma Pinot Noir

Posted on September 4, 2015

We recently came across a contest to design a full page ad for a Sonoma, California Pinot Noir called “7” on the St. Louis Egotist website. Even though we never enter design contest, or do spec work, we’ve always wanted to get into designing labels for beer, wine or spirits. This came somewhat close to that, so we decided to whip up a couple options. Since the name was based on the creators wife’s favorite number, and the cork reads: LUCKY YOU, we decided to play off a “lucky” theme. We wrote the body copy, four headline options and paired it with a design based off the label. We’re not looking to win the job, but a couple bottles of Pinot wouldn’t be bad.
