Shutter Magazine is an educational magazine for professional photographers that is a true multi-media experience merging print, video, and audio. It features tips on photography techniques, but more importantly tips on how to run a successful photography business. Its contributors are a list of whoโs who in the photography industry including: Salvatore Cincotta, Skip Cohen, Michael Corsentino, Dave Cross, Vanessa Joy, Justin & Mary Marantz, Lori Nordstrom, Blair Phillips, and Jen Rozenbaum just to name a few.
Here is the first paragraph of Justenโs article: As a professional photographer your number one marketing and advertising tool, without question, is your website.ย Potential clients should be able to find it on search engines. It should be viewable on all devices and computers and display properly on all browsers. It should showcase your BEST work, reflect your image and brand, and it should be user-friendly.ย Below is the recipe for a successful websiteโฆ Continue reading the article by signing up here: www.behindtheshutter.com/shuttermag.
Visual Lure was recently contracted to design a custom family crest/coat of arms for the Broyles, a St. Louis Metro East family. Using design elements taken from both sides of his family crests, plus adding new elements, we combined them to create a new custom coat of arms. Our client wanted the new crest to look centuries old, so we drew the entire crest by hand and kept that feel when we converted it into digital artwork.
Here is the initial sketch our client provided us:

Here is the first paragraph of Justen’s article: When it comes to the photography business, โyour brandโ encompasses pretty much anything that represents you or your company, including the way you dress, how you answer the phone, your website, the paper your price sheets are printed on, etc. All of these are represented by one simple visual: your logo. A logo is the main symbol of a business, and it is the cornerstone of a brand. Below is a list of seven rules to follow in order to have a great logo, keeping in mind that all rules can sometimes be broken… Continue reading the article by signing up here: www.behindtheshutter.com/shuttermag.

Visual Lure was recently contracted to design Thouvenot, Wade & Moerchen’s 2012 Christmas cards.ย This will be the third year we’ve designed a custom illustration for their cards. This year’s card features a stocking stuffed with engineering related objects, including a ruler, compass, triangle, blue prints and a calculator that reads 2,012. The name tag on the stocking reads: To: Cybil N. Gineer, From: Santa.

We recently went to Las Vegas for the 2012 Wedding and Portrait Photographers International tradeshow, more commonly knows as WPPI. I believe it is the largest photography tradeshow in the World with an attendance close to 16,000 people.ย We went there for a couple reason: 1) to support our friend and client Salvatore Cincotta who spoke to a packed platform class of approximately 800 people about taking their business to the next level.ย And 2) to offer his class and others a limited time special on logo design and branding.ย For those of you who don’t know Sal, he is an international award winning photographer, speaker, educator and published writer.ย His class featured a live performance by Ingrid Michaelson (courtesy of Song Freedom), a t-shirt gun, free giveaways, Q and A’s and more, not to mention some excellent tips and business advice for photographers. One of Sal’s main speaking points is about finding and using what he calls your X Factor, defining what’s different about your company and using it to your advantage.ย Since this is one of his core messages he wanted some X Factor t-shirts made to give away during his speech, or should I say blast them into the crowd using a t-shirt gun.ย You can see the t-shirts we designed below.
To learn more about Sal and his companies you can visit these websites, all of which we designed (except for Evolve’s)

We’ve been so busy designing world class logos, design savvy, user friendly, search engine optimized websites, award winning packaging designs and more, that we almost forgot we’ve officially been in business for 10 years (freelancing even longer, since the mid 90’s). We would like to thank all our customers, past and present, for the support and partnerships we’ve built. We couldn’t have done it without you.ย We look forward to many more years to come.
